Omer 8: Slowing Down in a Speeding World
As the week begins, I’ve contemplated all the times when slowness brings depth to thought, vision to surroundings, rootedness and understanding to situations. As spring weather blossoms in NYC, there are many moments to soak in the sun, taking time to let my stream of consciousness take over and respond to emotions, ideas, and sensations as they occur. Another part of NYC is the proximity to movement, traffic, rapidity – on the water, the roadways, the sidewalks, the subway platforms. The juxtaposition of taking those beats resonates between the rushing feet, noisy engines, clanging wheels along train tracks.

In considering the world around me, I often notice the similarities: of natural occurrences to each other, of the vast array of wonderful and terrible things people encounter, of personal and communal patterns. Building upon these observations opens pathways of learning, responding, and growing. I’m excited to continue slowing down, noticing, and changing.
