Omer 18: Navigating a Negligent World

By now, these Omer posts clearly communicate my own processing of and reflection on the difficulties I, along with many other people, have navigating a topsy-turvy, frightening, sometimes almost debilitating period in history. While I purposefully refrain from much political or direct current event commentary, these (among other factors) have shaken up my life the last few weeks, months, years. Sometimes a tendency emerges to escape the necessary pain and repetitive movements to keep connection, purpose, clarity in assessment.

I have found in the last few months more and more awareness of my own negligence, often exacerbated by the ways in which reactivity and lack of preparation has caused many of the world’s current larger problems. In an age of massive industrial and technological change, continuous changes have taken society by storm. Focusing in on the smaller and more manageable changes necessary to eliminate noise, distraction, forgetfulness is often difficult but increasingly essential.

I’m looking forward to my changing perspective in the next month of the Omer.
